Fully Staffed and Training has begun PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 21 May 2007

Thanks to everyone who has been applying for jobs recently, but we no longer have any open positions. We're very proud to have so many great people onboard.

This past weekend, we had 2 full days of training for the staff. We spent a lot of time talking about the mission and values of the cafe and how they fit with Prairie Crossing. We were so impressed by how well each person did, and by how collaborative the group was when asked to self-organize to accomplish training tasks.

We also did a massive cleaning to remove 99% of the construction remains. For the first time, it's really looking like a cafe and not a construction site. Glasses are on shelves, knives and forks are sanatized, fridges and freezers are ready to be filled with food.

We still have more decorating, barista training and food prep training to do. We're scheduling everything now. Once that's all set, we'll announce the date of our GRAND OPENING!

Also, thanks to the many people who have written, commented (on this blog), and stopped by to say hi during construction. Thanks for your continued support and we hope to see you very soon!

Hiring! PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 25 March 2007

We are hiring! We put a sign in the window last week and it's already led one great person (Rae) being hired. We still need a few experienced baristas, some shift supervisors, and a few more people with great attitudes and interest in learning. If you have experience or not, if you're interested in knowing more about fair-trade coffee, fine teas, organic and natural foods, and you're looking for 15 - 40 hours / week of work, please contact me at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

Barista training is going to be provided by some experts from our roaster, Metropolis. The rest of the training will begin as soon as we get all of the cabinets built and equipment in place. If you have any questions, please email me.

Is anyone looking for Part/Full-time work? PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 30 July 2006

Very soon, we are going to start talking to people who are interested in working in the cafe. Because of the Metra schedule, we're planning on opening early (maybe 5am!) during the week and staying open later on Friday & Saturday evening. That means there are a lot of options for work schedules. We're hoping to find some people who want to work early mornings (5-8:30?) before their 9am work/classes. And some who want to work days or evenings or weekends or any mix of the above as full or part-time. We're also planning on hiring a full-time manager, who has experience managing a cafe or coffee shop.

So, if you're interested in joining our team, please email me at info [at] prairiecroissant [dot] com. Hopefully, that notation reduces my spam...

More info soon...

-John
